Where AidMix Started: Support from Uppsala University Innovation

Every company starts somewhere. For AidMix, the starting point was not a finished platform, a perfect business model, or a polished product. It started with a simple observation from the scientific community:

many researchers have highly specialized expertise, and many companies need that expertise, but the connection between them is still too slow, informal, and difficult to scale.

AidMix grew from this gap.

As a research-driven idea emerging from Uppsala University, AidMix has been shaped by scientific work, conversations with researchers, and early discussions about how specialized knowledge can create broader impact beyond academia.

Support from Uppsala University Innovation

We are grateful that the early development of AidMix received support from Uppsala University Innovation.

UU Innovation supports students, researchers, and staff who want to develop ideas and create broader societal impact through research. For AidMix, this support helped us think more clearly about the problem we wanted to solve, the people we wanted to serve, and how a scientific expert marketplace could create value for both researchers and industry.

This early support was especially meaningful because AidMix is built around a very academic insight: scientific expertise is often highly specific, deeply valuable, and difficult to find from the outside.

From research insight to platform

The original idea behind AidMix came from real experience in the life science research environment.

In academia, we see many people with niche technical knowledge: formulation scientists, analytical chemists, microbiologists, imaging specialists, data scientists, and many others. At the same time, startups and small companies often need exactly this kind of expertise, but they may not know whom to contact, how to evaluate the right specialist, or how to structure a small scientific project.

AidMix was created to make this connection easier.

Our goal is to build a platform where companies can find scientific specialists, lab capabilities, and project-based expertise in a more transparent and accessible way.

Why this matters

Many early-stage life science companies do not need a full-time hire immediately. Sometimes they need a focused consultation, an experiment, a feasibility discussion, access to a specific method, or a specialist who can help them avoid months of trial and error.

At the same time, many researchers and experts want their knowledge to have real-world impact, but they do not always have a simple way to make their expertise visible outside their immediate academic network.

AidMix exists to bridge this gap.

We believe scientific knowledge should move more smoothly between academia, startups, industry, and society.

A positive beginning

The support from Uppsala University Innovation gave AidMix an important early foundation. It helped us move from "this could be useful" toward "this can become something real."

AidMix is still growing, learning, and developing. But this beginning matters.

It reminds us that innovation often starts with a small but persistent question:

what if scientific expertise could be easier to find, easier to access, and easier to turn into impact?

That is the direction AidMix is building toward.
